Twinkle, Twinkle

As many I'm sure have done, we sing lullabies to our little one to help him go to sleep. Unfortunately I don't really know that many lullabies, so it gets a bit tiresome singing the same songs over and over. To entertain myself I'll sometimes try to think up new words as I sing. Most are fleeting and the world is probably better off for my lack of memory. But I did manage to remember a new verse of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, that I'd like to share with you.

Wiggle, Wiggle, Little Ox,
How I wonder what your thox.
Hard to understand or know.
Like a magnet or rainbow.*
Wiggle, Wiggle, Little Ox,
How I wonder what your thox.

2 month doctors appointment

Maddox had his two month appointment today.  Here are his stats:

Height: 24.5 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 12lbs 6.5oz (50-75th percentile)
Head circumference: 40.5cm (50-75th percentile)

This was also when he was scheduled to have his first vaccination.  Momma was pretty nervous about this... his appointment was at 2:40, which turned out to be in the middle of one of his naps (doh... poor planning!).  So, he was kind of sleepy and fussy going into the appointment.  I didn't think this boaded well for how he would handle getting stuck.  The doctor examined him first, played and cuddled with him a bit, and then gave him the vaccine.  He cried that sad "how could you???" cry.  The doctor tried to soothe him, which I liked, but he wouldn't calm down.  She handed him to Luke, who was able to settle him by rocking him with his pacifier in.  He settled pretty quickly, which made me feel better.  :)

Interestingly, though, he got 5 immunizations with only one shot.  Polio, tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, and one more I can't remember right now.  I love that they can do all five of those with a single stick.

Right now baby boy is fast asleep.  <3

Saturday pictures!

On time this weekend, yay!  We had a much better Saturday this weekend.  Last Saturday Maddox was super fussy.  He wouldn't sleep, but he was obviously extremely tired.  Luke did some experimenting last week with how to get Maddox to nap better, and he seemed to have figured some things out.  One: the morning nap (around 8:30 or 9) is critical.  It keeps Maddox from getting overtired early in the day.  Two: Maddox pees about three times after eating.  We try and let him get all of those out before putting him down so that a wet diaper doesn't wake him up.  If we don't catch all those pees, we keep a close eye on him for early (wiggly) signs that he is wet.  Three:  We were putting him down for a nap after he had been up for two hours.  We decided that was a bit too long, so we aim for an hour and fifteen minutes or so, if not sooner.  Discovering all these little tricks has made a huge difference in his napping.  He took three good naps today, and went down for the night at 7:30.  He's been a great night sleeper, usually having an initial stretch of about 4.5 hours before waking up for food.  A well rested baby is a happy baby.  A happy baby makes for happy parents.  :)

And so, we had some fun playtimes with our happy baby today.  Here are three pictures of Maddox smiling while he was sitting on my lap after eating.  He was so smiley and happy, it was extremely cute.  All three pictures are adorable and I couldn't decide which one to post.  So you get them all.

Baby wearing!

We have tried to put Maddox in our Maya Wrap Ring Sling a few times now, and he immediately starts crying.  I was kind of discouraged because I had really been looking forward to baby wearing.  Today when I got home he had just woken up from a nap and had eaten, and was in a pretty good mood.  I decided to test out our other carrier, the Baby Hawk. Luke and I put him in and he seemed to really like it.  He seemed content, so I took him out for a short walk in it, and it was great.  He held his head up and was looking all over the place.  The carrier felt really secure and put a lot of his weight on my shoulders rather than my back.  I am excited about using this carrier more.  :)

Some baby wearing pictures!

EDIT-- As promised...

EDIT: We are having technical difficulties with the first video... something is happening to the sound when we edit it for upload.  We'll repost it as soon as we get it figured out.

EDIT 2:  Got it working... enjoy!

Super cute videos!

Talking with Momma:

As you can see, he is becoming quite the chatter box.   :)

And, video #2, some tummy time:

You can tell he is a breastfed baby... he has great latching-on form.  :)

Momma and Poppa fun!

Poppa's hilarious!

Enjoying the sights outside with Momma :)
Sorry for the late picture post... Maddox kept us busy yesterday.  To make up for it, we have not one but TWO super cute videos that will be posted later today.
